Touch Rugby

Screenshot 2015-11-18 at 10.05.36.pngGet ready, the ball is coming your way, and off you run to aim your score.

On Thursday November 12th we had sports. It was touch rugby. In Room 12 everyone was so excited to play touch  and when we got to the top field the coach told us his name,  which was Trevor. He then explained what we will be doing.

Coach Trevor is an expert at playing touch rugby, he was old and had some white hair.
We were playing on the field in the front of the junior classes. During that time it was very windy and at the same time it was so hot.

To begin with we had to get into four groups and the coach started us off with a warm up. Next he had explained what a penalty was. It is when a player has done something wrong in the game.

After that we played games but it was similar to doing relays. So we played a game and had to get into two lines and we had to run zig zag around students. As I was playing I felt very happy because there was a lot of action in the game.

Soon we had to get into a circle and coach Trevor passed the rugby ball to some students. Suddenly coach Trevor had said “We are going clockwise.”

It was very scary because there were eliminations.

Lastly we finished off with a game and off we went to class.

Syndicate Assembly Hosted By Room 9

Yesterday we had a syndicate assembly at the multi-purpose room. Room 9 was the class that hosted our syndicate assembly and it was a very short and simple syndicate assembly. We sang Christmas songs. Also there were certificates given out to two students and the two students that earned the certificate from Room 12 were Miria and Damien.

Tyrone Toka

On Friday October the 19th Ruapotaka School had a assembly for a boy from Tamaki College named Tyrone Toka. Firstly his mum was telling us about how he is in the finals and reminding us to vote for her son. Later on he sang a song for our school and so he made us clap along with him. Next we split to go to our Syndicate Assembly.

Cindy and Josh In The House!

The children that were chosen to go to the Pt England show were very joyful because they had been chosen. We had to walk all the way to Point England. Everyone was very interested to see the show about Cinderella but replaced Cindy and Josh in the house. When we arrived to Point England the lady made us sit in rows and treated us like guests. When the show started the lights went out and then it finally started.

My favourite part of the show was when everyone was dancing to the song called Whip Nae Nae, but it seemed like everyone was enjoying it.

First Time Ever Poetry Recital

On Friday the 6th, we had a Poetry Recital and parents were invited. It started off with Room 1 and all the way to Room 12.
Once Ofa had announced, "Can we please have the Room 12 finalists." my stomach just felt like it had butterflies in it. While Elizabeth and I walked to the front and stood in our places, people were looking at me. It was  so scary that I couldn't speak at all but I had to.
At the end teachers  presented our certificates to us and we had a photo with the other finalists.

Senior Cross Crountry

Senior Cross Country

Have you ever been exhausted during running? Yes I have, I mean like doing three laps made me tired, my legs were so sore and I had painful stitches.

We do fitness regularly in the morning when the bell rings at 8:55am. All the classes were ready and it started off with Room 7 followed by 12, 11, 10, then 9. When Miss Ginders said, “Go.”

Room 7 set off and ran for their lives. Then it went class by class.

Firstly we had to run towards Mrs Golder, down to Mr Reid, across to Mrs Buchanan, and finally up to Miss Ginders. During the first lap everyone ran but some students started to saunter like no teachers could see them. On our second lap we started to get really tired that we wanted to stroll but the teachers encouraged us to run faster. On our third lap people just were really exhausted and when we were  coming last Mr Reid  forced us to run faster.

After running all three laps we just felt like tipping a lot of cold water all over our faces. After that we went to class with  red faces.

Squared Cubed

A few days back , we had been making squared cubes. One of them were 5 x 5 x 5 = 125, because it was 5 to the power of 3 and that is how we say it in Year 8. The way we say it in Year 7 is '5 Cubed". Some students enjoyed making squared cubed but some  struggled to make them.

Origami

For our Visual Arts, Room 12 made origami dinosaurs, butterflies, flowers and many more things. We went on YouTube to find some origami things to make for our class. Once we found it, we asked Mrs Golder if we can have some paper. We all started to fold and make them and when we finished we then handed it over to Mrs Golder.

For Daffodil Day all the classes in my school had to make daffodils and the best daffodil was  sent up to the office and the person received  a certificate from Mrs Vickers. The best daffodils are placed in a vase in the library. Also on that day Mrs Vickers handed out the daffodils to those who donated a gold coin.

Water Usage by Humans and Plants

Screenshot 2015-05-06 at 10.35.01.png

Every form of life needs water to live and survive. Humans and plants have the same similarity like we need water to drink and plants need water to grow. Humans and plants are the same because they both need water to grow.

However, humans differ from plants in that, they use water to flush the toilet, shower, gardening, cooking, washing, recreation, dishwashing, washing cars, buildings and constructions, cleaning, ‘ agriculture - irrigation. Water is important to us because we can survive with it.

Plants contain more water than animals do, and most of them are 90 - 95 percent of water.
Plants are different from humans in the way they use water to support themselves. Plants take water through their roots and green plants need it for photosynthesis and that is how they create sugar for their foods.
`
Did you know if we waste water then we might probably run out and we would starve without water in our bodies?

Having Madd Messenger Over

Having the Madd Messenger at our school was good because they taught us about our future and about what we want to do in life. The people from our school that were there were Rooms 12 and 11. Caroline was the one that taught us more about our future. I liked the activities we did. We followed the person who was calling the instructions. We had to go both sides and to go back and forward. After that Petia Wilson drew a  picture while the music was playing. After Petia Wilson drew the picture, Rooms 11 and 12 took photos.

How To Prevent Illness

Preventing Illness

Preventing illnesses is a way of stopping others from spreading germs to people and it can make people sick.

The illnesses are:
  • flu
  • rheumatic fever
  • sore throat
  • running nose
  • chicken pox
  • coughing
  • vomiting
  • sore stomach

The causes of illnesses are not washing your hands and the bacteria can spread to other people. Not using a tissue is bad because when you sneeze the germs can hit other people. We should be wearing the right clothes for the right season and we should start eating healthy foods like fruits and vegetable.

The consequences of illness can lead to rheumatic fever which can begin as a sore throat. You can also get the flu which can cause you to  have a runny nose and even you can start coughing. You might want to go to the doctors to make you feel good. If your coughing without covering your mouth you can spread the germs to other people.

3 Simple Ways to prevent illnesses

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water
  • Don’t touch your mouth, nose, eyes, face and your hair without washing yourself
  • We should be eating the right healthy foods
  • Going to bed early
  • having a good sleep for up to eight hours so we can be ready for a good breakfast
  • do some exercises
  • drink water every day

P.E Day

P.E Day at Saint Kent's College
Screenshot 2015-03-31 at 11.28.25.png
First of all on Friday we entered the hall at St Kent's and the teacher introduced herself and told Jerry to make us feel welcomed to their school. The team leaders were taking their groups out so they could play whatever game the leaders chose. Our team went to the volleyball court and there were a set of cones on the ground. First we played bull rush to warm up before we started.

The hall was as big as and we started to play volleyball. But first we started of with some skills. So first we learnt how to pass the ball, how to spike and how to serve the ball. Firstly we had to be divided into teams. Then it was time to play  the real game and we all had fun playing volleyball.

When we finished playing volleyball we played soccer. Firstly we had to be divided into teams again, then chose our team names and my team was called Girl Power and the other team was named East Side. During the game the team East Side was aiming goals and we kept moaning that we lost.

Soon our team leader from St Kent's took us to the gym and we were watching the other teams playing basketball, and a girl was taking a video of a boy shooting a goal. Lastly, it was time to go to the bus and then go back to school and have our morning tea.

The life of a Gallipolil soldier.

The life of a Gallipoli girl soldier.

25th April 1925

Dear mum and dad.

Firstly Meafou and I were chosen to fight against Turkish soldiers at Turkey. it was time to dig our trenches and to get all our weapons ready before the bell rings at midday.

Later on we were so hungry that we wanted to eat. Once the food came  we were eating like we haven’t eaten before. I told Meafou that we were lucky that a box of food came. I told Meafou that we should properly save some food.

The next day the bell rang and Meafou ran towards his weapons and took his rifle. While Meafou took his weapon, I picked up my big two big guns and we both ran out to kill the enemies till their blood come out of their bodies. While I was looking at their blood I felt like vomiting.

I am so sad that they died.  My friend was happy that they died.

From your loving son Brandon.
